The Friends of Baxter Gardens hosted their annual Bark in the Park event this Saturday 15th September. However, this year we wanted to highlight the importance of healthy lifestyles, whilst promoting responsible dog ownership and use of the park.
Therefore, we decided to rename our event 'Healthy Dog, Healthy Owner' and invited a number of health related organisations, such as the NHS Health Trainers, Horsefair Listening Ears and Kidderminster Tennis Club. On the day the group provided a number of fun sporting activities which included Swingball, Trampetts and basket ball. As a group we aimed to raise funds for the work we do in the park and keeping in theme with the health theme, we provided a number of healthy foods, drinks and smoothies for people to purchase. This year we re-invited Happy Staffie Rescue to host their renowned dog show, from which a number of proud dogs and owners were able to take part in competitions and win prizes. Over all the day was a great success and we were delighted to see so many people coming down to use the park and enjoy the activities we had arranged for them. |
The Friends of Baxter Gardens showcased a Jubilee Fete in Baxter Gardens on Monday 4th June for the local community, after being successfully awarded Jubilee funding from Wyre Forest District Council.
We invited local store holders to attend the event, in a fete styled fashion, to make a memorable day for all to come and enjoy. In attendance were KD7 Scouts, who provided BBQ refreshments; and local singer Freddie, who kept the crowd entertained. Children and Adults alike were able to enjoy the fun games that had been put on for them by both members of the group and members from the Church of Latter Day Saints, including an inflatable bungee run game. On the day Kidderminster Tennis Club held a 1950’s event in conjunction with the groups 1950’s themed Jubilee Event. The local Community were also blessed with some star appearances, including Olympic Torch Bearer Alex Hollis, Carnival Queen Hannah Cornish and the Queen in her cardboard appearance. Susie MacTaggart, Chair of the Friends of Baxter Garden’s said that “the event had been a great success and it was nice to see the local people enjoying Baxter Gardens, as well as celebrating the Queens Diamond Jubilee. On the day we were raising funds for the events and work we do within the park, luckily we raised £200 which we would like to thank those who attended for”. |
